Amoxicillin ER Drug Information

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved amoxicillin ER (Moxatag™) for the treatment of strep throat. This medication is unique in that it is the first once-daily product used for this purpose. The medicine works by stopping the bacteria that cause strep throat from making cell walls, which causes the bacteria to die.

This drug is not appropriate for everyone. In particular, if you are allergic to penicillin or if you have kidney disease or other problems, your healthcare provider needs to know this information, as amoxicillin ER may not be the right medicine for you. In addition, tell him or her if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
