Cefixime comes as tablets or an oral suspension (liquid), and is taken once or twice daily. Most people who take this medicine do not experience any problems with it. However, side effects are possible and may include diarrhea, nausea, and frequent stools.

Though the medication is generally well tolerated, not everyone should take this antibiotic. Information on cefixime should be discussed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to minimize your risk for certain complications. For instance, people who are allergic to penicillin or those who have kidney disease may not be able to safely use this medicine.
