Cefotetan Drug Information

Available by prescription only, cefotetan (Cefotan®) is a type of antibiotic approved to treat and prevent various types of bacterial infections, including bladder infections, pneumonia, and skin infections, just to name a few.
 
This medication is given intravenously (by IV) or by intramuscular (IM) injection. It is usually given every 12 to 24 hours. For serious infections, it is usually best to give cefotetan by IV rather than by intramuscular injection. Side effects are possible with this medicine and may include allergic reactions or digestive problems.
 
Before starting treatment with cefotetan, your healthcare provider will need information on your medical history and any other drugs, vitamins, or supplements you are using. He or she will also ask if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, whether you have any kidney problems, and if you are allergic to penicillin.
