Furadantin Antibiotic Information

Furadantin® (nitrofurantoin suspension) is a prescription antibiotic approved for the treatment and prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs). Specifically, it is used for UTIs caused by the two most common types of UTI bacteria (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus saprophyticus), as well as a few other types of bacteria. It is not approved to treat kidney infections.

This antibiotic is typically taken four times a day. Because it comes as a liquid, Furadantin is ideal for children or others who have difficulty swallowing capsules. Although most people tolerate the medicine well, side effects are possible. In clinical studies, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting were some of the most commonly reported side effects of this product.
