Mefoxin Antibiotic Information

Mefoxin® (cefoxitin) is a medication approved for the treatment of various bacterial infections, such as:
 
  • Lower respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs, such as a bladder infection or kidney infection)
  • Abdominal (stomach) infections
  • Gynecologic infections.
  •  
This drug can also be given prior to certain surgeries to prevent infections.
 
Mefoxin is given intravenously (by IV), usually three to six times daily. Make sure to carefully review information on how to properly use this antibiotic, as Mefoxin can cause potentially dangerous allergic reactions or other problems if it is not used as directed.
