Bactroban 2% Ointment

Bactroban® (mupirocin) is often used to treat several different bacterial infections, from impetigo to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It works by preventing bacteria from making a protein important to their growth and reproduction.
 
This medication is available in the following strengths and forms:
 
  • Bactroban skin ointment 2% (22-gram tubes)
  • Bactroban skin cream 2% (15- and 30-gram tubes)
  • Bactroban nasal ointment 2% (singe-use 1-gram tubes).
     
The exact formulation and strength your healthcare provider prescribes will depend on various factors, including what the drug is used for. The nasal ointment and skin ointment are not interchangeable. The two forms are designed to work in slightly different ways.
