Dosing With Biocef to Prevent Bacterial Endocarditis

The recommended dosage of Biocef for the prevention of bacterial endocarditis in adults is 2000 mg, taken one hour before a surgical procedure is performed.
 
The recommended dosage for the prevention of bacterial endocarditis in children is 50 mg per kilogram of body weight, up to a maximum of 2000 mg, taken one hour before a surgical procedure is performed.
 

General Information on Dosing With Biocef

Considerations for people taking Biocef include the following:
 
  • Biocef comes as a capsule or oral suspension (liquid).
  • Biocef should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level of the medication in your system.
  • Biocef can be taken with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, try taking it with food.
  • Drink a full glass of water with each dose.
  • For Biocef to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
  • Make sure that you complete your entire prescription of Biocef, even if you start feeling better. This will ensure that the infection is completely treated.
  • Never take outdated Biocef. Taking any outdated medication may cause serious problems because the intended effects often change after the medicine expires.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to dosing with, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Do not stop taking Biocef without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
