Drug Interactions With Cefpodoxime

You may have an increased risk for kidney damage or other serious side effects if you combine cefpodoxime with certain drugs, vitamins, or supplements. Interactions such as these may be minimized, however, by giving your healthcare provider a current list of all of the products you are taking. Certain antibiotics, birth control pills, and antacids are some of the products that may cause adverse reactions with cefpodoxime.

 

An Overview of Cefpodoxime Interactions

Cefpodoxime proxetil (Vantin®) may react with a number of other products. Some of the drugs that can interact with cefpodoxime include but are not limited to:
 
  • Aminoglycoside antibiotics, such as:
    • Amikacin (Amikin®)
    • Gentamicin
    • Kanamycin (Kantrex®)
    • Neomycin (Neo-Fradin®)
    • Streptomycin
    • Tobramycin
