Generic for Cefprozil

A type of cephalosporin antibiotic, cefprozil (Cefzil®) comes in the form of a tablet and an oral suspension (liquid). This prescription medicine is taken once or twice a day. It is prescribed to treat a number of different bacterial infections, such as strep throat, ear infections, and sinus infections, just to name a few.
 
Brand-name cefprozil (sold under the name Cefzil) was made by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, but is no longer made. However, generic versions are still available and are made by various manufacturers.
 
Generic cefprozil is available in the following forms and strengths:
 
  • Cefprozil 250 mg tablets
  • Cefprozil 500 mg tablets
  • Cefprozil 125 mg per 5 mL for oral suspension
  • Cefprozil 250 mg per 5 mL for oral suspension.
 
All of the generic versions of cefprozil currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Cefzil.
