What Is Cefprozil Used For?

Can Children Use Cefprozil?

Cefprozil is approved for use in children as young as six months old for the treatment of ear infections or sinus infections. It is approved for children as young as two years old for skin and skin structure infections or pharyngitis and tonsillitis.

Because the cefprozil dosage used in children is based on weight, it is important that your healthcare provider has an accurate weight for your child. It may be best to actually weigh the child, as a child's weight frequently changes.

What About Off-Label Cefprozil Uses?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this medication for something other than the infections discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. Using cefprozil to treat other types of infections, or to prevent any type of infection, would be examples of off-label uses.
