More Detail on Drug Interactions With Ceftaroline

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when ceftaroline is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Birth Control Pills
Despite the long-standing belief that antibiotics interact with birth control pills, several studies have shown that most antibiotics do not increase the risk of pregnancy in women taking oral contraceptives. Nevertheless, there have been reports of birth control pill failure in women who have taken antibiotics.
Ask your healthcare provider about whether you need to use a backup method of birth control while using ceftaroline (see Antibiotics and Birth Control Pills for more information). If it is very important to you to avoid pregnancy, you might consider using a backup method just to be safe.
Oral Typhoid Vaccine
Like other antibiotics, ceftaroline may decrease the effectiveness of the oral typhoid vaccine. If you have received ceftaroline recently or are currently using it, your oral typhoid vaccine may need to be postponed for at least a day after receiving the drug.
Probenecid can decrease the body's ability to remove ceftaroline from the blood, potentially leading to high ceftaroline blood levels. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together.
