Cipro Drug Interactions

Some of the products that can react with Cipro include caffeine, corticosteroids, and certain antacids and vitamins. Some of the drug interactions with Cipro can lead to problems, such as decreased effectiveness of the medications or an increased risk for side effects. Cipro® (ciprofloxacin) may potentially interact with many other medications.

  • Aluminum, calcium, or magnesium antacids (Alternagel®, Gaviscon®, Maalox®, Mylanta®, Tums®, and many others)
  • Caffeine
  • Corticosteroids, such as:
     
    • Betamethasone (Celestone®)
    • Cortisone
    • Dexamethasone (Decadron®)
    • Fludrocortisone (Florinef®)
    • Hydrocortisone (Cortef®)
    • Methylprednisolone (Depo-Medrol®, Medrol®)
    • Prednisolone (Orapred®, Pediapred®)
    • Prednisone
