Cipro for Sinus Infections
Available by prescription only, Cipro® (ciprofloxacin) is a medication approved to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including sinus infections in adults. Cipro comes as a tablet, an oral liquid suspension, and an intravenous (IV) solution. It is usually taken twice a day, with about 12 hours between doses.
Cipro is approved for treating sinus infections and various other bacterial infections only when they are caused by certain types of bacteria. This is because Cipro is not effective against all bacteria types. In addition, certain parts of the country may be more likely to have bacteria that are resistant to the effects of Cipro. This medicine will not treat infections caused by viruses, such as the common cold or flu.
Cipro works by killing certain bacteria that cause infections. It does this by interfering with two bacterial enzymes that are necessary for the bacteria to grow and multiply.
