During standard
treatment for giardiasis, the patient will be given medication to treat
Giardia symptoms and to kill the parasite. These medicines have proven to be effective in curing approximately 80 percent of
Giardia lamblia infections.
If a patient is not cured after taking Giardia medicines, the doctor may recommend longer treatment or changing to another drug that will increase the chances for a cure. Unfortunately, it is unclear whether medicines can lead to actual Giardia lamblia cures.
