Drug Interactions With Levofloxacin

NSAIDs
NSAIDs may increase the risk of central nervous system stimulation problems due to levofloxacin. These problems include seizures, tremors, restlessness, anxiety, lightheadedness, confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, depression, nightmares, insomnia, and suicidal thoughts or acts. Check with your healthcare provider before taking levofloxacin with an NSAID.

Oral Typhoid Vaccine
Antibiotics (including levofloxacin) may decrease the effectiveness of the oral typhoid vaccine. If you have taken levofloxacin recently or are currently taking levofloxacin, your oral typhoid vaccine may need to be postponed for at least a day after taking levofloxacin.

Quinapril
Quinapril can bind to levofloxacin in the digestive tract, preventing it from being absorbed into the bloodstream. Separate your levofloxacin dose and quinapril by as much time as possible (by at least two hours).

Sevelamer
Sevelamer can bind to levofloxacin in the digestive tract, preventing it from being absorbed into the bloodstream. Separate your levofloxacin dose and sevelamer by as much time as possible (by at least two hours).

Sucralfate
Sucralfate can bind to levofloxacin in the digestive tract, preventing it from being absorbed into the bloodstream. Separate your levofloxacin dose and sucralfate by as much time as possible (by at least two hours).

Theophylline
Other antibiotics similar to levofloxacin may increase the level of theophylline in your blood. Although this interaction has not been reported with levofloxacin, your healthcare provider may want to monitor the level of theophylline in your blood, just to be safe.

Vitamins With Aluminum, Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc, or Iron
Aluminum, magnesium, zinc, calcium, and iron can bind to levofloxacin in the digestive tract, preventing it from being absorbed into the bloodstream. Separate your levofloxacin dose and any products that contain these minerals by as much time as possible (by at least two hours).
