Some of the products that can react with Cipro include caffeine, corticosteroids, and certain antacids and vitamins. Some of the drug interactions with Cipro can lead to problems, such as decreased effectiveness of the medications or an increased risk for side effects. To reduce your risk of these and other complications, tell your healthcare provider about any other medications, vitamins, or supplements you are taking.

An Overview of Interactions With Cipro

Cipro® (ciprofloxacin) may potentially interact with many other medications.
 
Some of the medications that may lead to Cipro drug interactions include but are not limited to:
 
  • Aluminum, calcium, or magnesium antacids (Alternagel®, Gaviscon®, Maalox®, Mylanta®, Tums®, and many others)
  • Caffeine
  • Corticosteroids, such as:
     
    • Betamethasone (Celestone®)
    • Cortisone
    • Dexamethasone (Decadron®)
    • Fludrocortisone (Florinef®)
    • Hydrocortisone (Cortef®)
    • Methylprednisolone (Depo-Medrol®, Medrol®)
    • Prednisolone (Orapred®, Pediapred®)
    • Prednisone
