Available by prescription only, norfloxacin can help treat certain bacterial infections, including prostatitis, gonorrhea, and urinary tract infections. This medication comes in the form of a tablet and is usually taken every 12 hours. It works by interfering with bacteria's ability to multiply. Although most people tolerate this medication well, side effects are possible and can include nausea, dizziness, and headaches.
What Is Norfloxacin?Norfloxacin (Noroxin®) is a prescription medication that belongs to a group of drugs called fluoroquinolones, or "quinolones" for short. Like other quinolones, norfloxacin is an antibiotic and is used to treat bacterial infections. Specifically, it is approved to treat the following types of infections:
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs), including bladder and kidney infections
- Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate).
Are There Side Effects?Just like any medicine, norfloxacin may cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
