MRSA is a type of bacterial infection that typically affects the skin. This infection commonly occurs at sites of visible skin trauma (such as cuts and abrasions) and areas of the body covered by hair (such as the back of the neck, groin, buttocks, armpits, or beard area of men). MRSA is a contagious infection and is spread by direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person or by touching a contaminated surface. Treatment typically involves antibiotics.
