Rifampin (Rifadin®) is a type of antibiotic that is available by prescription only. It is approved for use in the treatment of tuberculosis and is also used to get rid of a certain type of bacteria called Neisseria meningitides (the bacterium that causes meningococcal infections, such as meningitis).
 
This medication comes in the form of capsules and an injection that is inserted into a vein (an intravenous, or IV, injection). Before using the medication, you should talk to your healthcare provider if you have any allergies or if you are using any other type of medication.
