Sumycin: Side Effects

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with Sumycin. Not everyone who takes Sumycin will experience side effects. When Sumycin side effects do occur, however, they are usually minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by your healthcare provider.
 
Common side effects of Sumycin include but are not limited to:
 
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Skin reaction to sunlight (photosensitivity)
  • Upset stomach (dyspepsia)
  • Unexplained rash
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Itchy skin.
     
There are also a number of less common, but more serious, side effects that can occur. If you experience any of these side effects, stop the Sumycin and call your healthcare provider. These possible serious side effects may include:
 
  • Watery diarrhea
  • Stomach cramps
  • Bloody stools
  • Unusual headaches
  • Blurred vision
  • Unexplained rash
  • Joint pain
  • Fever
  • Feeling tired.

Sumycin: Drug Interactions

Sumycin can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these medicines include:
 
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®)
  • Aluminum, calcium, magnesium, and iron products (such as antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, laxatives, or multivitamins)
  • Penicillin
  • Oral contraceptives
  • Methoxyflurane (Penthrane®).
     
There are a number of other medicines that Sumycin may interact with.
